The Polka Dot Club has been around for a while now - long enough that looking back at this studio visit from 10 years ago feels like stepping into a time machine. Back then, the studio was smaller, different patterns in so many long gone colors where in production, and there were some very small kids running around...

Every day in the studio is a little different. Here's what I worked on today:

Making photographs for the PDC permanent collection. Something that takes me back to my black and white photo days in undergrad... all for the love of simple sculptural forms in hands gridded up like a contact sheet. 

Fixing and old mohair toy and bringing back to life. 

There is a deep pleasure in being able to revive something that's worn or broken. I suppose it has something to do with an honesty of materials, labor, and a love of craft, alongside the desire to "make do"—a sentiment that seems to have diminished within my lifetime.

We all need a little more connection with a real person, objects of tangible beauty, and a dedicated space to honor craft.
