PDF Sewing Pattern: Maxwell the Little Bear

I've been making mohair teddy bears for over 25 years and here's a chance to share some of that knowledge with you. This little bear can be machine or hand sewn. He’s a perfect project for someone who likes to work small and has the patience to do so. The pattern is simple and the detailed instructions- which can be modified to make it more or less complex, make this a good introduction to traditional bear making. The finished bear is about 6" tall.

  • 12”12”x12” piece of mohair- 1/4” fur or shorter
  • fabric marker or pencil
  • fabric scissors- large and small
  • various sewing Needles
  • all purpose thread matching your mohair
  • button and craft thread matching your mohair
  • sewing machine, size 14 or 16 needle, and pins*
  • 2 x 5/8” disks*
  • 4 x 1/2” disks*
  • 4 x 3/8” disks*
  • 5 x 1/16” cotter pins*
  • waxed thread*
  • one pair of 3mm glass eyes* or 3mm black beads*
  • straight hemostats
  • small needle nose pliers
  • perle #8 floss in black or brown
  • excelsior, cotton, wool, kapok and/or polyfill stuffing
